Ya follow?

Beatles and klieg lights in 1967Folks, last week I watched the refurb’ed Beatles Anthology (might post my opinions). Then I cruised around r/beatles, and had a nice interaction with a smart fan, who seemed pleased I was part of the Hey Dullblog crew. They encouraged me to re-open the site, and said that if I didn’t do that, “could they privately ask me a few questions via email”?

Well, obviously, sure.

That was flattering, and surprising—though I respect our other contributors immensely, for me HD has always been strictly hobby-writing, so when someone expresses a sense of its worth, I am particularly pleased. It’s as if my tinkerings in the toolshed made a contribution to beating the Nazis or something.

Appetite whetted, I dug back into HD which—for various technical reasons—I couldn’t even access the dashboard of. So I read it like a fan, posts and comments. And I was pleased by it, and more than that felt it continued to add something to the dialogue around the group and its era, both of which I love so much.

I probably don’t have much more to say (famous first words), but as of this moment I feel that HD is better as a going concern than a museum piece. At the very least, smart fans should be able to comment and converse on it. I am grateful that I didn’t nuke the site entirely; I think there’s writing and thinking of real worth here, mostly by the others but occasionally by myself, and the topic is not going away. So I’m turning the lights back on.

Feel free to comment, but comments (as ever) will be moderated—mostly for civility. Enjoy the site.

PS — If anybody knows why the dropcap is screwed up, holler. CSS flummoxes me.
